Who are we?
A decentralized service of the Ministry of Culture, the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (DRAC) implements the cultural policy of the State in Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
Our organization
Under the authority of the Regional Prefecture and the prefectures of departments, the DRAC is organized into three main areas of expertise:
Creation and cultural industries
Cultural democratisation and territorial action
At the local level, it relies on 12 Departmental Architecture and Heritage Units (UDAP): in Charente, Charente-Maritime, Creuse, Corrèze, Dordogne, Gironde, Landes, Lot-et-Garonne, Pyrénées-Atlantiques (2 antennae), Deux-Sèvres, Vienne and Haute-Vienne.
Our missions
Representing the Ministry of Culture and all its services in the Aquitaine region, the DRAC implements the State’s cultural policy in the areas of:
- knowledge, protection, conservation and enhancement of heritage;
- the promotion of architecture
- artistic creation, which it supports in all its components;
- public reading;
- artistic and cultural education and the transmission of knowledge;
- promoting cultural diversity and broadening audiences;
- the economy of culture and cultural industries;
- the promotion of the French language and the languages of France.
In articulation or support of its partners that are local authorities, public institutions of intercommunal cooperation and the associative sector, it provides animation functions, advice, control and evaluation in all these sectors and ensures the application of laws and regulations in the cultural field.
The cultural policies of the DRAC
At the local level, the DRAC contracts with local authorities aroundarts and cultural educationpublic reading and support for young talent and artistic employment, particularly through artist residencies. In addition, it works towards the development of digital technologies in mediation and knowledge transmission.
