On May 13, the Regional Commission for Heritage and Sites will examine the question of extending the protection of historic monuments of the private mansion located at 7 rue des Grands-Augustins in the 6thth district of Paris. This extension concerns the studio of Pablo Picasso. It was in this place that a number of the master’s masterpieces were created, including Guernica.
Sensitive to the preservation of this exceptional place of memory, the Ministry of Culture and Communication placed it, in July 2013, under the regime of the classification body. This decision made it possible to apply in this place all the protections related to historical monuments.
The Minister is committed to ensuring that this place, inseparable from the memory of the genius that was Pablo Picasso, is preserved. As the classification body expires in July, Aurélie Filippetti will ask the representatives of the Ministry sitting on the Heritage Commission to vote in favour of the inclusion of the Picasso workshop as a historic monument.
