Newsagents and newsagents make it possible, on a daily basis, in often difficult working conditions, to have the press present in the heart of our cities and in the public space. Their work contributes to the accessibility of our citizens to a pluralistic press, one of the pillars of our democratic societies.
In a period of difficult structural change, the regular closure of the number of newspaper outlets is one of the important factors explaining the decline in the sector’s turnover and a worrying signal for the presence of the press in all the territories.
Aurélie Filippetti, Minister of Culture and Communication, had called last July, at the announcement of the reform of state aid to the press, the entire sector, grouped within the CSMP, to increase the remuneration of newspaper dealers, the weakest in Europe.
The Minister of Culture and Communication is pleased with the 1.7 point increase announced today and the special effort being made to support the network of specialists.
It welcomes the responsibility of the entire sector, which has thus committed itself to carrying out the necessary reforms on the other levels of dissemination in order to finance this increase in remuneration and thanks the CSMP for its work of reconciling points of view initial.
This decision confirms the shared vision of the State and professionals on the issue of computerization of kiosks. While the Minister put in place an exceptional two-year support plan for the computerization of kiosks at the end of 2013, the CSMP reinforces the leverage effect of this effort with additional remuneration in the event of computerization. The switch to network IT is indeed essential for a better quality of service for readers and a better efficiency for the industry.
