Aurélie Filippetti, Minister of Culture and Communication, congratulates all the winners of the 67th Cannes Film Festival, presided over by Jane Campion, and in particular the Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan, who was awarded the Palme d'Or for his film Winter sleep.
This award goes to a work celebrating the intimate and societal questions, sublimated by lights in tune with the emotions of the protagonists of the film. This film co-produced by Arte, distributed by Memento Films, has benefited from the assistance to the world cinema, granted by the Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée (CNC) and the Institut Français.
The Minister is pleased that the Caméra d'Or was awarded to the trio of French directors Claire Burger, Samuel Theis and Marie Amachoukeli, for «Party Girl», produced by Elzévir and distributed by Pyramide. Already winner of the Ensemble Prize at Un Certain Regard, it is the singularity of the story of this portrait of Angélique, surrounded by his family and friends, that challenges the viewer thanks to the talent of a collective of non-professional actors. This film, shot partly in Lorraine, benefited from the support of the communities and the advance on revenues of the CNC.
At a time when the Festival is the most beautiful setting for world cinema, closes its doors, Aurélie Filippetti wishes to pay tribute to the action of Gilles Jacob whose Cannes edition is the last after 38 years devoted to the Festival as General Delegate and then as President. On July 1st, the man of culture Pierre Lescure will succeed him, Thierry Frémaux continuing to manage the Festival with talent and commitment.
The Minister also congratulates the French works and artists honoured and awarded in the other selections: at the Critical Week, Boris Lojkine for his film «Hope» produced by the French companies Zadig Films and distributed by Pyramide, the Italian-French short film «A Ciambra» by Jonas Carpignano, Gaëlle Denis for her short film "Crocodile"; at the Directors' Fortnight, Thomas Cailley for «Les Combattants» produced by Nord-Ouest Films and distributed by Haut et Court.
Aurélie Filippetti wishes to highlight the presence of many French in the Cannes selections, among which graduates of the Fémis, The school is mainly supported by the Ministry and the CNC, from which the 2014 winners, including the trio of directors and technicians of the Caméra d'Or, are drawn.
All, with the Cannes Film Festival and their institutional and financial partners, participate in France’s cinematic influence and in celebrating the model of support for the creation of our country, which has once again favoured the consecration of talents of all nationalities as evidenced by the awards and the various prizes awarded.
